Bill Deserved Better

On Sept. 23, 2011, Jennings William Bennett (Bill), a timber-faller was killed in a tragic accident in the Tehachapi Mountains in Kern County, Calif., while falling trees. He was fatally injured when a tree fell on him while working for Jess Witten Logging.

Kudos are in Order

Bravo to the Kernville Chamber of Commerce for another successful Whiskey Flat weekend.

So-called fishy rumor is fact

At a recent chamber of commerce meeting a member questioned the validity of a rumor he had heard that had locals grumbling. He had heard that the fishing derby committee was going to plant the derby fish on Saturday morning (the day the derby begins) rather than on Friday as in past years.

Margarite Alice 'McKinney' Spanner
March 26, 1916 - Feb. 14, 2012

Margarite “McKinney” Spanner went home to be with the Lord Feb. 14, 2012 at the Eastern Star Senior Living Center with her son Tom and his wife Sue by her side.

Arthur Westley ‘Rod’ Rodriguez
July 20, 1926 - Feb. 6, 2012

Rod’s journey began in the copper mining town of Morenci, in the mountains of eastern Arizona. When he left Morenci for Los Angeles in November 1942, little did he know how his journey would take him to the point of history on more than one occasion. Anxious to follow his brothers, both in the Navy, into the service during World War II, he enlisted in the Marines, 10 Aug 1943, shortly after his 17th birthday. On Sept. 18 he became a member of the 4th Marine Division, which soon headed directly from the US mainland to Kwajalein, for his first taste of action against the enemy. Subsequently based in Hawaii, he saw more action in Saipan, Tinian and finally Iwo Jima.

L. William “Bill” Tebbe, age 100+, passed away in his home Jan. 15, 2012, just 15 days short of his 101st birthday, with daughter Margaret and granddaughter Heather at his side.
